A full day of Easter fun. making a batch of hot cross buns and your own chocolate Easter egg cookies.   We will also temper some chocolate to make our own super cute small chocolate eggs.

Saddleworth Cookery School

These fun, informative sessions for those educated at home are suitable for children of all abilities from 9 to 16years. We focus on the child, with an emphasis on working in a relaxed environment, building cookery skills and encouraging conversations about food and healthy eating.  Classes run every other week.  Book a 'one off' session or join us for a block of 6 sessions, for a full course to develop and hone those essential cooking skills. 
Older children, and those who have already completed 2 terms of cooking with us have the opportunity to complete a BTEC Level 2 qualification.  Those completing the full course will have 2 full assessment days to complete the required controlled assessments.  
It is expected that those following the BTEC course complete some planning and evaluation work.  We will work with students to find the best way for them to record and use this.

In this full day of Easter fun we will make a selection of Easter themed foods including our favourite Rabbit Pie (which, honestly doesn't include any rabbits). For Dessert we will make carrot buns/cake and then get creative decorating in an Easter theme. We will also shape some Hot Cross buns and Easter Egg pizzas.\
Lunch will be a choice of either Easter Egg pizza or Easter sandwiches and our healthy fruity Easter Egg.\

Do you have any dietary requirements/allergies?

Whilst your chocolate cake is baking you will get to grips with tempering chocolate and making your own Easter egg shells and filled mini eggs to top your cake.\
Home made buttercream (obviously made from our own Saddleworth Butter) or ganache (using Saddleworth Cream) will be used to fill and ice your cake and we will also show you how to create a 'drip' cake,, use 'nude icing' and piping skills. You will then have time to decorate your cake with guidance from our staff.\
A vanilla base cake can be made as an alternative, and we are able to make cakes gluten free, Please contact us to request this when booking.

Do you have any special diets or allergies we need to be aware of?

We know our youngsters like enjoy feeding their family, especially for special occasions.
In this class they will make a seasonal soup and decorated bread to serve as starter.  
For main course we will show them how to roast a chicken for Easter Sunday and serve with seasonal vegetables.  
A lovely small Simnel cake will be made for dessert, which will be decorated traditionally and packed to save for Easter Sunday.

Lunch will be a traditional Easter roast dinner.

Children will leave with:
Soup
Home made bread and a bread kit,  to make it again.
Small Simnel cake
Any herbs, spices or specialist ingredients needed to recreate the meal at home.
Recipes for all dishes.

For your Easter Sunday dinner you will just need to supply:
a chicken, piece of ham or lamb
Vegetables
Family and/or friends to share the meal with.

**This holiday, we’ll be having fun creating our own Mac ’n’ Cheese dishes!**

You can’t spend a full day making Mac ’n’ Cheese… oh yes, we can!

In this full-day class, you’ll be making Mac ’n’ Cheese and more Mac ’n’ Cheese and more ……— yes, you get the idea!

We’ll start by making a classic Mac ’n’ Cheese. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’ll get creative, adding different ingredients to make your own version for lunch.

Our staff favourites include chorizo, onion and red pepper Mac ’n’ Cheese, and crayfish with truffle Mac ’n’ Cheese (yes, two of our absolute favourites!), but you can choose your own flavour combinations to create a delicious dish for lunch.

After lunch, we’ll show you how to make Mac ’n’ Cheese croquettes and Mac ’n’ Cheese pie. With the foundations in place, you’ll then create your own Mac ’n’ Cheese to take home. You can personalise up to four portions or make one large dish to share.  We will a have a variety of different pasta shapes and colours, lots of additional ingredients to add, a selection of cheeses and crunchy bread crumbs.

Will you make Mac n Cheese bakes, croquettes, pies — or a bit of everything?

We can’t wait for this session — we know just how adventurous our young chefs can be!  Who will invent the new Mac n Cheese?

The only thing we’re not looking forward to is cleaning the pans… so please keep the heat low and keep stirring to help us keep our sanity 🙂

This half term we will be getting creative with our Mac n Cheese.

Children's Full Day Mac n Cheese Fun

Have you notified us of any special diets or food allergies?

**This holiday, we’ll be having fun improving our meringue-making skills!**

We aim to prepare a minimum of two dishes during the day and make something savoury for lunch. Dishes are chosen according to the season and produce availability and may vary slightly.

In this full-day class, you will be making meringue kisses, a light pavlova, and Eton mess. If time allows, we may also use some of our spare egg yolks (and any eggs that didn’t separate correctly) to create a rich chocolate mousse.

As lunch can’t be just meringues, we’ll make pizza or sandwiches to enjoy together.

Your desserts will be boxed and ready to take home — although we’re certain a few may be sampled along the way!

Children's Full Day Meringue madness

**We all love making cakes, so let’s use the half-term holidays as the perfect excuse to create something extra special!**

Whether your child is a complete beginner or already loves baking at home, we’re confident you’ll be impressed with what they achieve.

Each child can choose to make and decorate a sponge celebration cake or get super creative by designing a beautiful cupcake bouquet. During the session, we’ll take inspiration from the retro buttercream cakes currently popping up all over social media — think frills, swirls, rosettes and plenty of decorative flair.

We’ll guide them through filling,  and decorating their cakes, helping them build confidence with piping techniques and colour combinations. There will be lots of opportunity to get creative and add personal touches to make their design truly unique.

Whatever they choose, your child will enjoy a fun, creative day and leave with a stunning celebration centrepiece to be proud of (if it makes it home without being sampled!).

As with all our school holiday classes, all ingredients, snacks and drinks are provided. Lunch will be a choice of pizza, jacket potato or sandwich.

A full day to make and decorate your own spring themed cake.

Some people choose yoga to relax, others turn to meditation — we prefer to make bread!

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll make three completely different types of bread: a classic yeasted loaf, a traditional soda bread, and a simple flatbread.

We’ll show you how to work with yeast and really get to know your dough. If you’ve tried breadmaking before, we’ll be on hand to answer your questions and help you refine your technique. And if you’re a complete novice, don’t worry — we’ll share our secrets to help you avoid any sticky situations!

While your dough is proving, we’ll have time to bake a traditional soda bread to take home and whip up a super-quick flatbreads to enjoy together.

There is nothing quite like the smell of fresh, homemade bread!

These classes will have your teenager creating complex dishes from the very first session.  They will learn how to follow a basic recipe and how to make a variety of savoury and sweet dishes.  We encourage teenagers to try new foods and to consider nutrition when choosing dishes. 
These sessions can also be used to build  and record skills for the Duke of Edingburgh Award.
The class starts at 4.30pm but children arriving by public transport/school bus are more than welcome to arrive early - we even a dedicated area to do homework before the class starts.

Recipes can be adapted to meet any dietary requirements and children with additional needs are also welcome on the classes - please contact us to discuss this at the time of booking.

Those attending these sessions also have the opportunity to complete a BTEC Level 2 Home Cooking Skills qualification.  To be entered your child will need to attend a minimum of 30 sessions and be aged 14 or above when entered.  There is an additional charge for the qualification, please contact us for further details.

A fun-packed 2 hour session developing confidence and independence in cooking. 

Make, roll, fill and shape your own pasta. In this fun 'hands on' session you will make your own pasta dough from scratch and use a pasta machine. You will then make filled pasta , linguini and tagliatelle and at least two sauces to compliment your pasta

Three hours of fun making, shaping and cooking pasta. You will also make fillings and sauces to complete your dishes.

We will then sit and eat some of the food made to complete our pasta experience.

Fillings and sauces can be meat, fish based or vegetarian.

Learn how to make pasta dough from scratch and use a pasta machine.

Getting to grips with the basics or improving your culinary skills, our Adult Cookery Club will introduce you to different dishes and improve your confidence in the kitchen. you will not only leave with plenty of hints and tips, but also some great food to enjoy at home. Book individual sessions, or make the most of our 'discount block', when booking over 5 sessions.

Attended my 1st class at Saddleworth Cookery School on Monday 18th October. From walking onto the premises, I was made to feel welcome immediately. Wonderfully friendly staff, who have a method of teaching that is equally informative and relaxed. We made Paella and other side dishes which I had not previously attempted. A small group of people started the evening as strangers, but by the end of the session, we were talking and laughing like old friends. I will be booking again for the next session.
