Saddleworth Cookery School

Getting to grips with the basics or improving your culinary skills, our Adult Cookery Club will introduce you to different dishes and improve your confidence in the kitchen. you will not only leave with plenty of hints and tips, but also some great food to enjoy at home. Book individual sessions, or make the most of our 'discount block', when booking over 5 sessions.

Attended my 1st class at Saddleworth Cookery School on Monday 18th October. From walking onto the premises, I was made to feel welcome immediately. Wonderfully friendly staff, who have a method of teaching that is equally informative and relaxed. We made Paella and other side dishes which I had not previously attempted. A small group of people started the evening as strangers, but by the end of the session, we were talking and laughing like old friends. I will be booking again for the next session. Date night with a difference. This was a lovely way for my husband and I to spend a few hours together and pick up some new skills. A really nice relaxed class and Pam explained everything really well. Everything was provided and all of the produce was of the best quality. We were bought this as an Xmas gift and came expecting it to be a demonstration. Unfortunately it was just ingredients that were popped on a desk with a hard to follow recipe. There was a big overhead camera but they didn’t use it. A lot of the food was already made for example the rice and chicken. When we walked in there was someone who showed us to the “coffee and tea section” to which we could help ourselves but then that was about it, we found our own table to work at, figured out what baskets were for which recipe and had to find our own feet as to what to do. 

We got to take home some nice food though ☺️

Given that only 3 people had booked the evening where pies were the chief theme, and only 2 had turned up, I was extremely grateful that the class went ahead as it obviously took time in preparation and planning as well as staff.
The class was really well taught and I learnt some helpful tips.
It was tricky to balance the two of us - I had done rather more cooking and had some of the techniques already, whereas the other participant was learning rather more.  this meant that I felt we went very slowly for our first dish and it left us short of time towards the end to complete something else which might have taught me more new skills
Over all I really enjoyed the evening and Pam teaches with great enthusiasm!

Getting to grips with the basics or improving your culinary skills, our Adult Cookery Club will introduce you to different dishes and improve your confidence 

These classes will have your teenager creating complex dishes from the very first session.  They will learn how to follow a basic recipe and how to make a variety of savoury and sweet dishes.  We encourage teenagers to try new foods and to consider nutrition when choosing dishes. 
These sessions can also be used to build  and record skills for the Duke of Edingburgh Award.
The class starts at 4.30pm but children arriving by public transport/school bus are more than welcome to arrive early - we even a dedicated area to do homework before the class starts.

Recipes can be adapted to meet any dietary requirements and children with additional needs are also welcome on the classes - please contact us to discuss this at the time of booking.

Those attending these sessions also have the opportunity to complete a BTEC Level 2 Home Cooking Skills qualification.  To be entered your child will need to attend a minimum of 30 sessions and be aged 14 or above when entered.  There is an additional charge for the qualification, please contact us for further details.

A fun-packed 2 hour session developing confidence and independence in cooking. 

Some people choose yoga to relax, others turn to meditation — we prefer to make bread!

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll make three completely different types of bread: a classic yeasted loaf, a traditional soda bread, and a simple flatbread.

We’ll show you how to work with yeast and really get to know your dough. If you’ve tried breadmaking before, we’ll be on hand to answer your questions and help you refine your technique. And if you’re a complete novice, don’t worry — we’ll share our secrets to help you avoid any sticky situations!

While your dough is proving, we’ll have time to bake a traditional soda bread to take home and whip up a super-quick flatbreads to enjoy together.

Are still trying to master a basic loaf and looking to improve your bread making skills. Or are you making a fantastic loaf and ready to move to the next stage, want to try new recipes or just get more creative with dough? In this class we will share our tips to extend your understanding of the theory of bread making, dough hydration, kneading techniques, introduce you to enriched doughs and look at different methods of proving and shaping.\
Once you have mastered your basic loaf the possibilities for bread making are endless. Learn how to extend and shorten proving, to get the best from your dough; work with fresh and quick action yeast; compare warm and cold prove dough, know how to shape dough to make loaves, muffins, baguettes and rolls, make an enriched dough (for a Chelsea/cinnamon bun styled bread) and a cold prove focaccia. You will also learn how to produce a crisp or a soft crust. If time allows, we might even get to make a couple of mini doughnuts and iced fingers.

Extend your understanding of the theory of bread making, enriched doughs, methods of proving and shaping.

Mastered a basic loaf and ready to take your breadmaking skills to the next level? Want to try new recipes and get creative with dough?

This class will deepen your understanding of the theory behind breadmaking and help you refine your technique. Once you’ve mastered a basic loaf, the possibilities are endless! You’ll learn how to adjust proving times — extending or shortening them — to get the very best from your dough. We’ll also explore how to make dough using a mixer to make our maltflake dough.

Already confident shaping loaves, muffins, and baguettes? Then you’ll love creating savoury and sweet knotted buns, a Stromboli-style centrepiece bread, delicious fruit teacakes (or mini-loaf) and a maltflake loaf.  We’ll also have some of our dough ready for you to really get to grips with shaping and to make a Turkish style Pied ‘slipper bread’.

As this is a longer session, we’ll break for lunch with homemade soup with your hand shaped rolls, twists, cobs and mini loaves — and if time allows, we might even show you how to make mini doughnuts and iced fingers to eat for dessert!

A complete beginner or a bit of a bread expert, you will spend the day mixing, kneading and shaping a festive bread ring, a mini panettone and shaped dinner rolls. As it will be difficult to resist eating these before Christmas, you will also help your family to put together your own bread kit so that you can reproduce the recipes at home.

Booked on the Christmas Bread making course as a birthday present.
Have visited several courses previously and although enjoyed found them to be a bit formal.
This course was different in that it was excellent in every way.
Pam the instructor provided all the coaching and positive support needed.
Nothing seemed to much bother for explanation or teaching.
We made three breads Panettone, Tear and Share and a Cinnamon Star. We also had time to practice some dough shaping designs.
When I said had some time it was a 5 hour course which flew by although we did not feel rushed to complete the end results.
Thank you to Pam and Phil for providing such a great day and of course the tools, material and resulting breads we have enjoyed. 
One of those things you find that you want to tell others about and encourage to visit.
